Public Art Project at JFK Terminal 6
Celebrated New York artist Jane Dickson has been chosen, along with eighteen other talented creators, to showcase their artistic talents as part of a public art project tied to the ambitious $4.2 billion renovation of Terminal 6 at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
On Thursday, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, in partnership with JFK Millennium Partners (JMP), the organization managing the terminal’s redevelopment, announced that Dickson will create a stunning bronze medallion.
This remarkable piece will welcome travelers in the arrivals plaza—the first area they encounter upon arriving in New York City.
Details of the Artwork
Spanning 14 feet in diameter, this striking medallion will be situated near a beautifully landscaped terrace, providing a visually enriching experience for visitors as they arrive.
The upgrades to Terminal 6 are part of a larger, multi-phase $19 billion project aiming to modernize JFK, which has been underway since 2017 and is expected to wrap up by 2028.
Dickson’s creation will be featured in an inspiring art initiative organized by the Public Art Fund, a nonprofit devoted to embedding contemporary artwork in lively public spaces.
Selected Artists
Having moved to New York in the late 1970s, Dickson has significantly impacted the art community.
Originally from Chicago, she was a key member of the artist collective Collaborative Projects Inc., where she engaged in innovative installations with fellow artists.
Recently, her vibrant paintings have found a home at the well-known downtown gallery, Karma.
The artistic contributions for Terminal 6 include ten New York-based artists.
The diverse group of nineteen features notable creators such as Charles Gaines, Kambui Olujimi, Teresita Fernandez, and Nina Chanel Abney, each bringing their own distinct vision to this transformative project.
This public art endeavor is set to enhance the experience of travelers at JFK, turning the terminal into a vivid showcase of creativity and inspiration.
